History: Barry Hanson was born in Jublife City Hospital at 4:05 P.M. on August 6, 1997 via C-section. The Hanson family had lived in Twinleaf Town for over a century, and Barry grew up there himself. When Barry was around the age of four, he showed up at the door of his neighbor Lucas’ house asking to play. Following behind Barry was his other young neighbor, Dawn, whom he had just befriended before turning to Lucas. He befriended the both of them and they all remained friends throughout their childhood.
Barry was homeschooled since the day he started first grade. He had tried going to public school in Jubilife City, but was very unhappy. With his mother being a stay-at-home mom, she was able to teach him from home. It gave Barry the freedom to make his own schedule and go outside and play as needed, which suited him much better. Nothing eventful really ever happened until Barry was 14 years old.
One day in January, Barry saw on the news that Professor Rowan had returned to his lab in Sandgem Town after a trip to the Kanto region. Excited, Barry decided he would go to Professor Rowan and ask for a Pokémon to take on a journey. He thought Rowan might be more eager to give him a Pokémon since he was friends with Dawn, who worked for Professor Rowan at the time. He decided to drag Lucas into the picture and began to walk through the tall grass leading to Sandgem Town, before being stopped by Rowan and Dawn themselves. Rowan chastised them for trying to go through the grass without a partner. After admitting that Barry was the one who had been at a fault, Professor Rowan agrees to give him and Lucas a Pokémon. Barry chose Turtwig and Lucas Piplup. From then on, Barry was on a journey to defeat all eight Gym Leaders of the Sinnoh region and to challenge the Elite Four and eventually best the Champion.
Even during his journey, Barry would constantly rush about, excited and ready for anything. He was a strong trainer, but his technique was off. He though brute strength was all that was needed, but realized late in his journey that such was not the case. He could never quite win against Lucas during their battles, but was never discouraged. Barry also assisted in fighting against Team Galactic, who were constantly causing trouble throughout the region. After battling Jupiter at Lake Acuity and being defeated, Barry began to reevaluate his training methods an the way he’;d been acting and begins to be a bit more mature and serious. At the end of Barry’s journey at the Spear Pillar atop Mt. Coronet, Barry helped Lucas battle against Mars and Jupiter, and kept them at bay while Lucas jumped into the opened portal that Cyrus had entered (though not by his choice). He waited and waited and waited for Lucas, though the two commanders of Galactic ended up fleeing. After hours of waiting, Lucas finally reappeared in Twinleaf Town and messaged Barry that he was all right.
Barry later tried challenging the Elite Four, having gained all eight badges, but couldn’t stand up to them. Lucas, on the other hand, defeated the champion with relative ease. He was so proud of his friend and was content to live in Twinleaf Town. A year after the events of Barry’s journey, he began to intern at Professor Rowan’s lab, often doing plenty of fieldwork and capturing different Pokémon for Rowan. He also helps record Rowan’s findings about evolution as well. Barry is happy with his life, and is trying to figure out his future now.
