“It’s blue,” Lucas answered instantly. He didn’t even know if his Lucas’ favorite color was blue or not, but it was an answer.
He then stammered, “A-And my name really is Lucas. Look!” And then he pulled out his trainer’s card from his pocket. If anything, that should serve as a proper identification form. These kinds of things can’t exactly be faked. And it had his full name, too: Lucas A. Adams. “See? Here’s my trainer’s card!”
The Trainer card is legit, but you know Lucas’ surname isn’t Adams. You believe he really is Lucas, but not yours. You study the Trainer card for quite a few minutes. You’re honestly bewildered and confused as to how this happened.
“…okay, you’re Lucas. But my Lucas’s surname is Langley, so you’re not him. Who are you, then, and why are you here?”
Lucas took a step back once Barry started glaring and yelling. Well, it seemed that he didn’t change that much…that is, this Barry wasn’t different from the Barry he know…ahhh, this was getting confusing! What was he gonna do?!
“I-I’m not trying to pull anything!” he responded, bringing his hands up in self-defense. Well, now he couldn’t pretend he was this Barry’s Lucas…wait a minute. “I’m telling the truth!”
“Yeah, so? That doesn’t explain why you don’t know what I’m talking about!” You cross your arms and let out a hard sigh. “Okay, I’ll settle this and see if you’re the real Lucas or not. What’s your favourite colour?”
It’s a simple security question and it can’t fail as a test for this supposedly faux Lucas. If he gets it wrong, then you’ll spring an attack on him like he’s never seen before. You’ll figure out what’s happened to your Lucas and what this Lucas wants with you.
…When did Dawn head off to college? Sure, that would explain why he hadn’t seen her in a while, but Lucas was pretty sure that she’d tell him if she did. And he was also sure that he would have known about Barry taking that internship, because this was such a plot twist for him.
“…Um…I think I would have remembered that,” he mumbled quietly. Now he was certain he had stepped into another verse. Didn’t the Barry he knew want to be the Tower Tycoon like his dad? How would he tell this Barry that he was probably different from the Lucas he knew?
You’re so confused right now it’s not even funny. What, did Lucas have some sort of evil twin he was never informed of? There’s no way Lucas didn’t know about your internship. So, as the mature 17 year old you are, you decide to be grill Lucas for his statement.
“What do you mean you ‘would have remembered that’?” Air quotes accompanied that statement as well as a glare. “What the heck do you think you’re trying to pull, huh? Who are you and what have you done with the real Lucas?!”
…Rowan? Since when did Barry start working with Professor Rowan? The last time he talked with Barry about the Professor, he was calling the older professor ‘Bushy Stache’ or something like that…and that didn’t seem to long ago for him. Did Lucas wander into some alternate universe in which Barry was the assistant?
“…Rowan?” The confusion was clearly evident in his face.
You cock your head, confused by Lucas’ own confusion. You could have sworn Lucas knew that. Yeah, he did! He was the first person you told. Weird. Maybe it just slipped his mind?
“…well, yeah. Professor Rowan started letting me intern with him about a year ago, remember? Since y'know, Dawn went off to college and stuff.”
Both Dawn and Lucas were about a year old than you. Dawn has graduated high school and was off to Canalave University and Rowan wanted another intern to help him out. Of course, you still have a year to go before you graduated and you were more than happy to spend your time helping out the professor. After all, he had helped you get on your journey.
“Hey, Barry!” Of course Lucas waved and jogged over to Barry the moment he saw him. They were close friends, after all. “How are things?”
You’re just wandering around Sandgem Town since you’re on your break when you hear your friend Lucas call out to you. Excitement surges through you. You haven’t seen Lucas in quite a while! He’s busy with training and still wanders around the region.
“Yo, Lucas!” He jogs over to you and asks how you’ve been. “I’ve been good! Rowan’s always keeping me busy!”
